Payment options
Online: We accept all major debit and credit cards through our secure checkout.
In our showroom: We accept all major debit and credit cards, as well as cash.
Bank transfer: If you would prefer to pay by bank transfer, please contact us so we can manually process your order and provide payment details.
Buy now, pay later: We do not directly offer buy now, pay later or instalment plans. If you already have an account with a provider such as Klarna or Clearpay, your provider may offer a virtual or digital card through its app. Where your provider permits that card to be used with us, you may be able to pay online or in our showroom, up to your approved spending limit and subject to the provider approving your purchase.
Please check your app or contact your provider first: card availability, eligible retailers and online or in-store use vary, and acceptance is not guaranteed. In particular, Clearpay may be restricted to participating retailers; we do not offer Clearpay directly.
If you use an eligible provider-issued card, we receive the full order payment as a card transaction. Any instalments, repayments, fees and payment schedule are arranged with and managed by your buy now, pay later provider, not Essex Sofa Outlet.
Privacy notice — how we use and protect your information
Last updated: 20 October 2026
Who is responsible for your information?
Essex Sofa Outlet is responsible for the customer information used to manage your enquiries and orders. Contact us at orders@essexsofaoutlet.co.uk or write to Essex Sofa Outlet, Unit 8a Orchard Business Units, Cockaynes Lane, Arlesford, CO7 8BZ.
What we collect and why
We collect the details needed to fulfil and track your order: your name, email address, telephone number, delivery address, chosen products and colours, order number, prices, payment status and references, delivery or collection arrangements, and relevant access instructions. We also keep relevant enquiries, customer emails and order notes so our team can follow the progress of your purchase and respond consistently.
Emails exchanged with our business inbox may be copied into your order’s conversation history in our staff dashboard, including relevant messages you send us and replies we send you. We use this history for order management, delivery updates and after-sales support. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information that is not needed for your order.
We use this information for your purchase and related service, not for advertising or unrelated marketing. We do not sell your customer information. We may also retain records needed for accounting, legal obligations, returns, warranties or disputes, and use necessary technical information to protect the website against misuse.
Our lawful reasons for using your information
We use information to take steps you request before a purchase and to carry out our contract with you, including processing your order and arranging delivery. We retain required financial records to meet legal obligations. Where necessary, we rely on our legitimate interests in protecting the service and keeping appropriate records to handle enquiries, complaints and legal claims. We balance those interests against your privacy rights.
We need the relevant contact, payment and delivery details to complete your order. Without them, we may be unable to accept the order, arrange delivery or keep you informed.
Where information is stored and who receives it
Order records and related email history are stored in the website’s hosted database and accessed through our staff dashboard. Business email correspondence and copies of emails sent from the dashboard are also held in our business Gmail account.
We use service providers where needed to operate your order: OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare for website hosting and database services; SumUp for online card payments; Resend for order and customer emails; and Google Gmail and Apps Script for business correspondence and email-history synchronisation. Payment records for cash, bank transfers and in-store card payments may be entered by our team. Delivery teams or suppliers receive the details needed to fulfil your order, where applicable. We may disclose information where the law requires it.
Online card details are entered through SumUp’s hosted payment service. Our order database stores payment status and transaction references, not your full card number or card security code.
Some providers may process information outside the UK. The protection required depends on the destination and the applicable service arrangements, including any UK adequacy decision or approved contractual safeguards. Contact us for information about the locations and safeguards relevant to your information.
How the website protects information
- HTTPS encrypts information while it travels between your browser and the website.
- The staff dashboard requires authorised sign-in, and access to order-management services is checked on the server.
- Staff passwords are stored as salted password hashes rather than readable passwords. Repeated sign-in attempts are limited.
- Staff sessions expire and use secure cookies designed to reduce access by browser scripts. Website checks also help protect changes to order records against requests from other websites.
- Payment and email service credentials are kept on the server rather than included in public website code.
These measures reduce risk, but no website, email service or method of storing information can guarantee absolute security.
How long we keep information
We keep information for as long as it is needed for the purpose described above. Relevant factors include whether an enquiry or order is still open, delivery and after-sales requirements, applicable accounting and tax record-keeping duties, warranty periods, and the time needed to resolve complaints or legal claims. Records needed for a continuing legal obligation or dispute may be kept after an order is completed.
Removing an order from the active staff dashboard is a recoverable action: it does not immediately erase the underlying order record or its emails. This helps us recover mistakes and retain necessary records. To request erasure of your personal information, please contact us; we will assess the request and explain any information we are required or entitled to retain.
Your privacy rights
Depending on the circumstances and our lawful reason for using the information, you may ask to access your personal information, correct it, erase it, restrict its use or receive a portable copy. You also have the right to object to use based on our legitimate interests. These rights are subject to the conditions and exceptions in UK data protection law. Send requests to orders@essexsofaoutlet.co.uk.
If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can contact us and you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Website visit counts
We keep daily totals of main website page views to understand website usage. These counts do not store IP addresses, visitor identifiers, browsing histories or personal details, and do not use cookies or browser storage. Repeat views count separately. Signed-in staff visits and recognised automated browsers are excluded.
Browser storage and changes to this notice
The website uses browser storage to remember your basket and maintain checkout progress, including details temporarily held during a checkout attempt. The staff dashboard uses a sign-in cookie. You can remove browser storage through your browser settings, although this may clear your basket or interrupt checkout. This notice does not provide consent for advertising or tracking technologies.
We will update this notice when the way we handle customer information changes. The date above shows when this version was updated.
About Us
Essex Sofa Outlet is a family-owned business based in Colchester, Essex. Our goals and values are simple: to help you bring style and comfort into your home with beautiful sofas at discounted prices, without compromising on quality.
We believe choosing a sofa should feel welcoming and straightforward. Honesty is at the heart of our business, and we pride ourselves on offering friendly, personal service to every customer. From exploring colours and fabrics to finding the right fit for your space, we’re here to listen, answer your questions and help you choose with confidence.
As a family business, we know a sofa is more than a piece of furniture—it’s where you unwind, spend time together and make everyday memories. We’d love to help you find one that feels at home with you.
Our Showroom
You’ll find our showroom at Unit 8a Orchard Business Units, Cockaynes Lane, Arlesford, CO7 8BZ. It’s a modest space, so we’re unable to display our entire sofa collection—but we don’t want the size of our showroom to limit your choice.
That’s why we’ve put care into creating this website: to bring our wider range to you, with photographs, product information and dimensions to help you explore at your own pace and find a sofa that suits your home.
We’d love to welcome you in for a friendly chat and a look at the sofas we have on display. If a particular model has caught your eye online, please get in touch before visiting so we can confirm whether it’s available to view. Whether you visit us or enquire from home, we’re here to answer your questions and help you choose with confidence.
Our showroom is open on Wednesdays from 11am to 2pm and Saturdays from 11am to 4pm. We look forward to helping you find your perfect sofa.
Where do you deliver?
We offer delivery and setup across the UK Mainland for just £99. Our friendly two-person team will bring your new sofa into your home, position it in your chosen room and set it up just how you want it—so you can settle in and start enjoying it.
We want delivery day to feel straightforward and welcoming. If you have any questions about access, stairs or where you’d like your sofa placed, please let us know when you enquire. We’ll talk through the details with you and help you prepare for its arrival.
What if my sofa is out of stock?
If your chosen sofa and colour have an estimated restock date and a confirmed price, you can pre-order and pay online rather than sending an enquiry. Select your colour and choose “Pre-order”. Before adding it to your basket, we will show the restock date and ask you to acknowledge the longer delivery timescale.
Delivery will likely be 2–3 weeks after the estimated restock date. Restock and delivery dates are estimates and may change. We will keep you updated and will be in touch to arrange delivery as soon as stock has replenished.
The estimate is repeated in your basket, at checkout and in your order confirmation. Payment is taken at checkout. If there is no current restock date, or the price needs confirming, please contact us before ordering. Pay securely online with SumUp. We will email your confirmation after payment is verified.
How do I know it will fit?
Measure your room, doorways, stairs and access route. Compare them with confirmed product dimensions, including packaged dimensions. Product measurements are taken from the catalogue; confirm packaged dimensions and access requirements before ordering.
Delivery, Returns & Guarantees
Delivery
Damage: Please inspect your furniture thoroughly while our delivery drivers are present and point out any damage. We will assess the issue and do our best to replace the affected part, or agree an appropriate alternative such as a repair. If damage is discovered after the drivers have left, please contact us as soon as possible with photographs and your order details. Signing for delivery does not remove your statutory rights, including for damage or faults that were not apparent on delivery.
Customer unavailable or delivery cancelled: Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you cannot accept your scheduled delivery. For a missed delivery or cancellation within 24 hours, the original £99 delivery charge is retained where legally permitted. Arranging another delivery costs £149 (£99 delivery plus £50 towards the failed attempt). Any charge will be reasonable, reflect costs incurred and will not override statutory cancellation or refund rights.
Items do not fit: It is your responsibility to check that the furniture fits your room and access route before ordering. If delivery fails because the items do not fit, delivery charges may be retained only where legally permitted. If you choose a different product and another delivery is required, the re-delivery charge is £149. Statutory cancellation and refund rights still apply.
Incorrect items: If we send incorrect items because of our error, we will arrange the correct delivery at no extra cost. If the wrong item was ordered by the customer, any exchange and re-delivery charge will be agreed with you, subject to your statutory rights.
Missing items: Missing feet, decorative cushions or similar small parts that do not affect use of the furniture can be posted as soon as possible. Please contact orders@essexsofaoutlet.co.uk for all queries. This does not limit your rights if an item is incomplete.
Returns
For online and other distance purchases, you may notify us that you wish to cancel within 14 days after delivery, then return the furniture within a further 14 days. Please email orders@essexsofaoutlet.co.uk to arrange the return and obtain return instructions. You are responsible for the direct return cost for a change-of-mind return where this was disclosed before purchase. We do not offer a change-of-mind return collection service.
We will refund the purchase price and the standard outbound delivery charge when you cancel the whole distance order under your statutory cancellation rights. Any additional amount paid for a premium delivery service is not refundable. We will issue the refund within 14 days of receiving the goods back or evidence that they have been sent back, whichever is earlier.
You may inspect the furniture as you would in a shop. We may make a lawful deduction for diminished value caused by handling beyond what is necessary to establish its nature, characteristics and functioning. Any deduction will reflect the actual loss in value, rather than an automatic clearance-value charge.
Genuinely bespoke or personalised products made to your specifications may be excluded from change-of-mind cancellation rights. This does not exclude your rights if they are faulty, damaged or not as described. Choosing a standard model or colour does not automatically make an order bespoke.
Wear and tear, accidental damage, misuse and damage caused by sunlight or smoke are not manufacturing faults. If furniture is faulty, damaged on arrival or not as described, contact us promptly. Your statutory remedies apply, including the short-term right to reject qualifying faulty goods within 30 days and rights to repair, replacement or other remedies where applicable. We will bear reasonable necessary return costs for valid faulty-goods claims.
Guarantees
All our brand-new sofas come with a 12-month manufacturer’s guarantee covering manufacturing faults to the frame and internal structure. It does not cover general wear and tear, accidental damage, misuse or damage caused by sunlight or smoke. The guarantee is additional to your statutory rights and does not limit them.
After six months, you may need to show that the fault was present at delivery. An independent furniture inspection, for example by Emmiera or Castelan, may help, but is not the only form of evidence we will consider. Please contact us before commissioning a report. You may need to pay initially; reasonable inspection costs establishing a valid manufacturing-fault claim will be reimbursed. Reports that do not establish a manufacturing fault will not normally be reimbursed.
Placing an order confirms acceptance of these delivery, returns and guarantee terms, without limiting any statutory consumer rights.
Can I ask a question by email?
We’re here to guide you through your sofa shopping journey, from your first browse to finding the perfect fit for your home. If you’d like a little advice at any point, simply click the Email enquiries button to open your email app with a message to our friendly team.
If you’re viewing a product details page, the sofa name and your selected colour will automatically be added to your message. You can then add any questions before sending—whether you’d like to know more about the fabric, check a measurement or discuss delivery.
No question is too small. We’re always happy to help and want your experience with Essex Sofa Outlet to feel welcoming, reassuring and straightforward.
